<-> Imagine this little Indian girl living in a different world <->
<-> If things would've been different back then when ... <->
Canyon walls echoed with voices of old
Stories a chief around a campfire told
After the sun had set and dark would surround
The young and old that had gathered around
An old chief would enter majestically and spoke profound
About life in the old days past and no one made a sound
Listening intent to his story and what about it was said
He spoke the words but on his face the story was read
The old chief spoke of days when Indians reigned supreme
And they were with all nature and wildlife naturally teamed
The Indians lived back then hand and hand with the nature of all things
Sole man inhabitants on this land we profess to across it freedom rings
Until the days of the intrusion upon the land of the white man came
Claiming the land and his being superior over the Indian proclaimed
A darkness then fell upon the land for nature and also for the Indians
Who were driven from their homelands and relocated to other lands
The buffalo that had roamed across the land abound
Were savagely slaughtered relentlessly hunted down
By the white men who claimed they were the ones more civilized
The chief's story stopped and he wiped the tears from his eyes
Do you realize that even now the darkness that fell back then
Across this land still remains of the days back then when
The white man came and proclaimed it as his
The chief's story shouldn't have ended as this
But it did because the civilization of the land mandates it as so
White men haven't learned to live on the land where buffalo
And the Native American Indians lived hand in hand
Beside each other back then in them understanding
So much more white men living with nature could've learned and gained
If only they could have learned to live side by side on the same domain
As they and imagine if you can, how things might be now
If only the promises made back then held in a pow-wow
Between white men and Indians would have come true
This would be a better place to live in for them and you
And stories the chief now tells around a campfire on a reservation
Wouldn't end in tears because we'd held true to their preservation
Imagine we learned from their respect of all life on this land
And all people and wildlife lived free from sea to shining sea
<-> IMAGINE ... That if you can ... <->
